you

Ricky Brule (00:29.533)

On the podcast today is a Minnesota native who enjoys all things outdoors. Jordan Manon is a dancer, a young entrepreneur, and more importantly, she enjoys archery and bow hunting. She relocated to the mountains of Idaho and has more recently become a digital creator of Vapor Trail and Stokegrass stabilizers. Jordan, welcome to the range. How are doing?

Jordan Mannon (00:51.079)

I'm good, how about you?

Ricky Brule (00:52.833)

Good, good, fantastic. Good to finally get you on. We've been trying to make this happen for a couple of weeks. And I know it's tough. You work during the day and it's not like you've got the kind of job where you can just like say, hey, I'm going to go do a podcast real quick. right. Someday maybe, but yeah. then so for me, like in the evenings, I'm,

Jordan Mannon (01:07.984)

Yeah, I wish sometimes. Sometimes I wish.

Ricky Brule (01:17.261)

Me and my wife, we kind of just like tag out. She tags out and I tag in and I'm kicking it with my daughter for the evening typically. So I've got to get her to bed and all that kind of stuff. So here we are. It's a late night episode. It's 830 p Well, 840 my time now. It's what is it? 740 your time. So and we'll get into a little bit a little bit about that some more. But

Jordan Mannon (01:37.301)

740. Yeah.

Ricky Brule (01:45.825)

Why don't you introduce yourself and then tell us a little bit about your archery origin story, if you don't mind.

Jordan Mannon (01:53.564)

Like Ricky said, my name is Jordan. I grew up in Minnesota, born and raised. I grew up in the outdoors with my dad and my brother constantly hunting and I was like, you know what? This is kind of something I want to do. I first started as just archery shooting targets as a whole family. My mom ended up joining too.

And then I was like, you know what, I want to hunt. That's, I grew up with eating, all we ate was venison. So I was like, you know what, I kind of want to be able to do that myself, especially when I get older, supply my own food. So I was like, let's do hunting. And once I started, I don't want to stop now. So.

Ricky Brule (02:34.305)

Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty cool. so did you correct me if I'm wrong, but were you kind of up in the Duluth area? that where you were living?

Jordan Mannon (02:43.643)

Yep, yeah, that's where I started and then I moved down closer like St. Cloud area. Yeah, mainly hunting up up north in Duluth.

Ricky Brule (02:49.761)

Yeah, yeah.

Ricky Brule (02:55.605)

And your dad's been on the scene for a long time. I'm pretty sure I've seen him at the, you know, some MSAA state shoots and stuff like that before. don't know if I've met him before. I'm sure I've seen him standing up on the podium a few times though. And so what about you? Did you ever compete in any of the state shoots or anything like that or any 3D stuff?

Jordan Mannon (02:59.934)

Yep.

Yeah. Yep, he's been doing it for a while.

Jordan Mannon (03:12.264)

Yeah, couple.

Jordan Mannon (03:20.393)

Yeah, I did. I've done a lot of the MSAs. I go to Vegas every year. And then 3Ds, go to those, any ones that I can get to at least. Haven't competed in any 3Ds yet. That's one of my goals though, to get to some of those ASAs. And of course now I moved farther away from them, but I'll still make it. I'll still make it.

Ricky Brule (03:36.172)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (03:40.907)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you typically frequent both fast that's you usually don't miss that one. That one's

Jordan Mannon (03:45.755)

Yeah, no, I was able to surprise my parents this year at it too, so that was fun.

Ricky Brule (03:50.731)

Yeah, yeah, that was pretty cool. Yeah, it was interesting because there, well, there was a few people in the shop that were like, what the heck? Why didn't she let any of us know that she was going to be around? And I was like, well, she didn't even let her parents know. So I don't think.

Jordan Mannon (04:04.981)

No. I know very, like very minimal. I was like my brother, my grandma, and then a couple people that I needed help with. And I was like, okay, we just can't let it slip. So, yeah.

Ricky Brule (04:17.013)

Yeah, yeah, totally get that totally get that. That's a ton of fun to do that. So, well, that's awesome. Yeah, and all things outdoors, right? So I mean, I mean, you do see I saw you were doing some wakeboarding. You're you're a dancer for many years. I'm you still dance a little bit. I'm guessing maybe not as much as you used to.

Jordan Mannon (04:23.346)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (04:29.308)

Yep.

Jordan Mannon (04:39.796)

Yeah, I could dance competitively for 17 years. And then once I graduated out of high school, was like, you know what? mean, now this is more time to focus on hunting and fishing and just enjoying the outdoors with my family. So it's been very nice.

Ricky Brule (05:00.013)

So what originally brought you to St. Cloud and then to start working at Shields?

Jordan Mannon (05:05.169)

So I moved to St. Cloud for school because I was going to school for marketing and then obviously I needed a part -time job so I was like, why not work at Shields? It's outdoors. I'm able to work in the hunting department. So I did that and then a job opened up here in Idaho for a marketing position and I was like, why not? Let's do the move.

Ricky Brule (05:26.797)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty cool. I, there was a point in time in my twenties that I thought I was going to have an opportunity to move out to Bozeman. and I didn't end up getting the position. In fact, it was my buddy that got the position. and so now he thrives out and out in the Bozeman Montana area ever since, which is going on a better part of 20 years now. But, but yeah, just being out in the mountains, it's,

It's a big change, I imagine, and it looks like you're having a blast out there.

Jordan Mannon (05:59.599)

Yeah.

Yeah, it's been absolutely amazing. just, feel like it was yesterday. I was just thinking about this. I'm like, I feel like it was yesterday. I was in your guys' shop just talking with Hollywood that I'm like, do I do it? Do I do the move? He's like, go for it. He's like, it's a perfect time in life. And I was like, yep.

Ricky Brule (06:13.324)

Yeah.

Mm -hmm. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You crazy not to, honestly. I mean, that's cool. I'm sure you have no regrets.

Jordan Mannon (06:24.015)

Yeah, exactly.

Jordan Mannon (06:28.926)

No, not at all.

Ricky Brule (06:30.945)

Yeah, I love it out there. I hunted elk, well, five years ago now, I think. And I know it's really hard as a non -resident to get tags out there now. So I'm not sure how long it'll be before I ever get out there. But that was quite possibly one of my favorite hunts, one of my favorite adventures for sure. I didn't come home with an elk, but it was absolutely unbelievable. It was awesome.

Jordan Mannon (06:56.056)

Yeah, just like, just the experience of being out here. I, before I moved out here, like I had never been out here, never took a trip to see what it was like. I just picked up and moved and I'm like, we'll see how it is once we're actually there. it's, it's stunning. No matter like what direction you go, there's always something to do and just being in the hills and mountains, it's, yeah, I can't, I'm grateful for it.

Ricky Brule (07:09.579)

Okay.

Ricky Brule (07:21.079)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I bet. So and speaking of elk hunting, you're going on an elk hunting trip this weekend, aren't you?

Jordan Mannon (07:33.972)

I am. It was very last minute, but I got my resident pricing two Sundays ago and I was like, yeah, I'm doing it. I was like, not, I don't think I'd ever say no to an elk hunt. So yeah, so.

Ricky Brule (07:45.313)

Mm

Ricky Brule (07:49.291)

Yeah. Yes. What is the what is the elk tag run out there as a as a resident?

Jordan Mannon (07:58.467)

$36. So what's really nice though is like so there's a sportsman's package out here in Idaho for 144. You get your elk, your deer, bear, turkey, wolf, mound lion, and then your salmon and steelhead and for $144. So I got it. So I have all of those to fill this year.

Ricky Brule (08:00.673)

goodness. That's ridiculous.

Ricky Brule (08:19.649)

in this.

Ricky Brule (08:23.475)

Eeease.

Wow.

Jordan Mannon (08:28.866)

Yeah

Ricky Brule (08:30.989)

Wow, that's pretty wild. I wonder what it is now. Because when I got my elk tag, was OTC. that was, for those people out there that don't know what that means, that's over the counter. And I think it was like a little over $600, I think.

Jordan Mannon (08:52.162)

I think it's still around, it's maybe around the 600, 700. I think still I was looking at the non -residents before I moved out here. was like, wait, when am I going to actually be able to? Because I know there's that like six month that you have to wait. And thankfully it lined up perfectly. Yeah.

Ricky Brule (08:58.263)

Mm

Ricky Brule (09:04.704)

Yep.

That worked out pretty well. That's awesome. So tell me a little bit about the trip. You don't have to talk about where you're going, but is it somebody that you're working with at Shields or somebody that you know or they were just like, hey, let's go.

Jordan Mannon (09:20.513)

Yeah, somebody that I just met through work invited me and they're like, we have some elk that we see around this time of the year and they're like, if you want to come up and I'm like, yeah. So now it's just kind of crunch time and making sure everything is sited in after I just got a new bow a month ago.

Ricky Brule (09:40.213)

Yeah. Yeah, and then you said you're doing a different arrow setup for L. Is that what you're doing? You're changing it up a little bit?

Jordan Mannon (09:47.488)

Yeah, so I knew I needed to get new arrows anyways and so now it's reciting in new arrows and broadheads right now.

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (09:59.503)

That's cool. I look forward to seeing how that all pans out for you. And this isn't your first elk hunting trip, right? You've been elk hunting before?

Jordan Mannon (10:09.072)

No. Yep, so I've gone twice, haven't gotten anything yet. I've come close a couple times. I'd been going to Colorado with my dad and brother. That's where they are at right now. I'm kind of having some kind of having some FOMO right now. I wish I was hunting. I'm constantly getting pictures.

Ricky Brule (10:19.253)

All right on. That's awesome.

I don't

Yeah, yeah, that's cool. So are they getting on any elk out there right now, or are they?

Jordan Mannon (10:34.559)

My dad had... he had let one arrow fly at a cow and elk are tough animals, let's just say that. They are some tough animals. But I don't know, they have had some close encounters. But we're hoping this week it happens.

Ricky Brule (10:57.823)

Mm -hmm. Yeah, for sure. It gets a meat in the freezer. That's always good. Especially elk meat. It's the best. Mm -hmm. So I wanted to, this is something I didn't know about you that I just discovered doing a little bit of research. But I mentioned in the intro that you're a young entrepreneur. And I saw that you started a clothing company back in the day called In Motion Outdoors. Is that right?

Jordan Mannon (11:01.551)

Yeah, it really is.

Jordan Mannon (11:26.327)

Yeah, I had started that and then I moved to St. Cloud and it was just kind of hard to do that while going to school. It's something that I've thought about picking back up but let's just say it is hard when you are busy 24 -7.

Ricky Brule (11:43.637)

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I well when I was when I was going to college, I was spending too much time goofing around to you know, if I wasn't studying or at work, I was out snowboarding or hunting or trying to do something. You know what I mean? So I can't imagine you know, telling all your but sorry, man, I got to fill these orders for

Jordan Mannon (11:52.243)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (11:55.961)

Yeah. Yeah, exactly.

Jordan Mannon (12:05.082)

Yeah, it was starting to be a lot when I first started it and of course I started like the same year that I moved. So I was like, we'll hopefully like be able to pick this back up. And then of course, when I moved to Idaho and I'm like, maybe it's the direction I'm not supposed to go or maybe it's just supposed to be put on pause.

Ricky Brule (12:22.56)

Yeah. Yeah, for sure. So yeah, so you said you started it right when you moved. So you were 18 when you moved?

Jordan Mannon (12:33.437)

I moved when I was... I moved when I was 20. Yeah, I moved when I was 20. First to St. Cloud and then stayed there for about a year and a half.

Ricky Brule (12:41.869)

Okay.

Ricky Brule (12:47.807)

Okay, okay. So the real question I was trying to figure out is how old were you when you started the company?

Jordan Mannon (12:58.204)

Was I 19 or 20? Maybe I was 20, because I think it was like the beginning of the year. I think I started designing stuff when I was 19, and then it just carried over, because I started in January or February.

Ricky Brule (13:10.443)

Yeah. Yeah, but that's cool. just I think that's amazing to, you know, have that type of work ethic to want to do something like that at that age. I think that's pretty.

Jordan Mannon (13:20.74)

Yeah, it's definitely fun because I feel like I've always been somebody that likes to mess around, just like kind of design stuff. So I'm like, let's just start designing stuff for on clothes. And yeah, so that was fun. Hopefully I can pick that back up.

Ricky Brule (13:36.794)

Yeah, definitely. Absolutely. So you were talking a little bit about your bow. You got a new bow set up this year. So let's talk a little bit about that. What bow are you shooting? And then and then let's do a rundown of all your accessories.

Jordan Mannon (13:45.252)

I did.

Jordan Mannon (13:50.459)

Yeah, so I just got about a month, maybe a month and a half ago now already, I got the Eva Gen 3 Bo -Tech. I decided to switch because I absolutely love the adjustable grip on it, which because something, that's something I always struggle with is finding that right spot for my grip and having it consistent. So I got that and then I got my new Vapor Trail strings on there, my HHA.

Ry's site, the double pin, and then I have the Integrate 8X rest on there with my Stoker iStabilizers. I think I have the Micro M1s on there. I think that's what I ended up going with.

Ricky Brule (14:23.021)

There you go.

Ricky Brule (14:32.781)

Yeah. Yep, I think so. Yeah. 11 inches on the front and eight or do you have a sidebar? I can't remember.

Jordan Mannon (14:39.511)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (14:44.193)

Like a back bar, do you have one of those on your boat?

Jordan Mannon (14:45.75)

Yeah, I have one. I'm trying to think what I ended up going with.

Ricky Brule (14:49.837)

I'm trying to think back on some of the pictures that Logan got and I feel like it was 11 out front and an 8 inch sidebar.

Jordan Mannon (14:57.39)

Did I always end up going shorter up front and longer in the back? I don't remember because I have two different sets of the Stokerized. One on my Matthews and one on the Botec.

Ricky Brule (15:05.427)

Mm -hmm. OK. OK. Which ones did you all did you get? What was on your Matthews? Do you remember for still crash stabilizers?

Jordan Mannon (15:15.853)

I think that one was like the separate that like one goes straight out. And then I have for the Bo -Tech it's the like they're together. The S. Yeah, I got the stasis for the Bo -Tech. Yeah. And I've loved it so far. So.

Ricky Brule (15:25.256)

the stasis.

Okay, alright.

Ricky Brule (15:33.857)

Yeah, it's a pretty slick setup when they first came out with that stasis. gosh, it's been quite some time now, but I picked one up from them before we, you know, before we owned it, or I should say before Vapor Trail bought Stokerized from Kyle Stokes and Sean Lutz. And we're we've always been really good buddies with them. And so, yeah, I used to shoot that stasis. And then when we bought it, then we created the M1 version of that because we wanted

Jordan Mannon (15:35.639)

It is.

Jordan Mannon (16:02.001)

Yeah, I think that's what's on my Matthews.

Ricky Brule (16:04.779)

Yeah, so that's a really nice setup for you for sure. So you're working at Shields out in Meridian Shields, correct, in Idaho. And so what are you, like the marketing coordinator there, or what is your official position?

Jordan Mannon (16:09.514)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (16:14.473)

Yep.

Yep, correct.

Jordan Mannon (16:23.607)

So I'm community outreach, so I get the job of reaching out to everybody and learning this whole community, which has been really nice with being new here. I've definitely learned a bunch of different businesses, different people, and it's definitely connected me with a lot of people.

Ricky Brule (16:33.291)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (16:41.825)

Yeah, yeah, that's really cool. That sounds like it would be kind of a fun job. You know what I mean? Because then you don't have to, well, maybe you do, but I'm just trying to think about the marketing stuff that I have to do. it's it's constantly changing, constantly evolving. Like just when you think you get something figured out, something changes.

Jordan Mannon (16:46.623)

Yeah, it definitely is.

Jordan Mannon (17:00.657)

Yeah, it really does. That's like even between because we have some like social media lead here and then we also all do events. So that's also a fun part is being able to do events. Like we just had a hunt fest. So that was really fun. All the different vendors come in.

Ricky Brule (17:09.516)

Okay.

Mm

Yeah.

Yeah, I was just going to ask you about that. So you had vendors and stuff come in, but is there any big names that come in to do any speaking deals or anything like that or seminars?

Jordan Mannon (17:29.482)

For that event we didn't, but like we had, First Light was kind of our main topic for it. We had them in the Big Ten and then we just had like Seekins, Nemo Arms, Vortex, Everly Stock, Initial Ascent, just kind of a bunch of bigger ones out there talking and yeah. Turned out to be a great event, especially with Idaho not really knowing what Shields does for event -wise as a bunch of other...

places I've seen those events.

Ricky Brule (18:00.587)

Yeah. Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (18:02.613)

So that was really fun to kind of open that up to the community and for many more to come.

Ricky Brule (18:08.523)

Yeah. So I'm curious about, it's story time. So I'm curious about, you know, what's your like favorite adventure that you've ever been on? It doesn't necessarily have to be archery, but if it is archery related bonus points.

Jordan Mannon (18:16.348)

boy.

Jordan Mannon (18:28.306)

Well, I'd say my favorite, it is gonna be hunting related. It's gonna be going out west with my dad and brother and some friends. It was, was that already three years ago now? That may have been already three years ago. So we were going out elk hunting and let's just say my brother and I were arguing quite a bit. My dad was getting really sick of it. And...

Ricky Brule (18:38.059)

Mm

Ricky Brule (18:44.62)

Mm

Ricky Brule (18:51.691)

Jordan Mannon (18:56.82)

My dad's like, you know what? You guys are gonna go hunting this time together. Because we like always go up into twos. There was six of us. So it like worked out perfectly. Like two go to this spot, two go to that spot. So my dad's like, you know what? You two are going together. And I was like, great, here we go. So him and I go out and I look at him like when we're driving to the spot and I'm like, watch, like this is gonna be the time that one of us shoots. So.

Ricky Brule (19:04.394)

Okay.

Jordan Mannon (19:25.233)

We were sitting in an early morning set and we had some, we saw some cows and a bull following. And I was like, I was like, they were going towards his direction and I was like, boy, I'm like, maybe this is actually going to happen. And next thing I know, like I thought I spooked some cause I saw some like run up like behind me. Next thing I know, like I just see my brother running up this hill with his bow like in his arm. And I was like,

Like he was yelling at me but I couldn't hear. I was like, I can't hear you, like what are you saying? And he's like, I just shot and I was like, no way. Yeah, so thankfully like after all the arguing, it kind of helped because we were now very happy together. But of course, he, let's just say that year was kind of his year for hunting because out of all of it, the elk decides to die right on the road.

Ricky Brule (20:20.275)

yeah.

Jordan Mannon (20:23.73)

where we could back the truck up to it.

I was like, well, I guess we don't have to pack this Elk Goat. But I think it's just that moment of being able to experience it with him was probably like my favorite. Like as much as like it's fun to be able to be the one shooting, being able to like witness either my brother or my dad shooting something is like, it's just just as exciting and that adrenaline.

Ricky Brule (20:31.063)

Yeah, that's amazing. That's amazing.

Ricky Brule (20:55.083)

Mm -hmm. -hmm. For sure. And it'll, it like changes the relationship that you have with that person too. You know, I can say every single person that I've, you know, because I've gone on some hunts with some people that are, might consider, you know, you're like borderline acquaintance, friends, but you're like, yeah, let's go, you know, we got this thing in common. Let's go do this. Let's hunt. Like we could totally get along doing that, right? You know? But like when you have success,

Jordan Mannon (21:01.958)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (21:21.133)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (21:24.907)

It's just like all of sudden now you're just like instant besties, you know?

Jordan Mannon (21:28.302)

Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I know. Like it was just like that running up giving a hug and I was like, we're better now. We're not arguing anymore. Like we had been past five days.

Ricky Brule (21:37.561)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's that's really cool. Yeah, definitely. Like even when I was a kid, you know, my dad took me out hunting and and, you know, again, like I've said this on other episodes before, but it's the only time that I've seen him cry when I have shot a deer. And like in some moments I was, you know, I was like 12, 13, you know, and I'm just like, what's going on? Why is he crying? That's kind of weird, you know, in the moment.

Jordan Mannon (22:04.101)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (22:05.666)

But it really, I don't know. He was not much of a hunter. But just for him to see me do that, it got him really excited. Now as a dad, I get it. But it's just ever since those moments, I was kind of like, man, that was really meaningful for him. And so then I'm like, huh. And so again, it's that thing where it just kind of brought us closer. You know what I mean? And then it was like, couldn't miss a hunt after that.

Jordan Mannon (22:15.939)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (22:29.482)

Yeah.

Mm -hmm.

Ricky Brule (22:33.993)

I, cause I lived in Duluth for five years. I went to college at UMD and so I would drive and I grew up in Northwest Minnesota. So Crookston area. So I would, you know, haul across the state, you know, every year to go, to go hunting with my dad. But I was just rifle hunter back then. I wasn't real diehard with the bow. I had no idea what I was doing with the bow back then, but, yeah, yeah. But, I did do some hunting around the Duluth area a little bit, but it was, it was bad. I was not good.

Jordan Mannon (22:54.248)

You're like, we're just going to go for it.

Ricky Brule (23:03.645)

I thought if I spent, you know, a lot of money on like one of those new, the carbon suits had just come out back then. And I think I spent a thousand dollars in my college money to buy thinking like that was going to be the deal. I'll send them an assist start killing. Yeah. And it was way too big for me to like, didn't fit. It was just, I did. Yeah. Anyways.

Jordan Mannon (23:17.095)

I'm all this money, I'm gonna be set for this hunt and then... Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (23:26.024)

boy.

Ricky Brule (23:29.257)

So, well that's pretty cool. Any other cool stories you got from hunting? I saw you've had some success with the bow. Well, hunting is tough.

Jordan Mannon (23:40.809)

Yeah, it really is. Thankfully, like, what's been really nice is so dilute out of your, aware of like the city hunt up there too. If you know much about that.

Ricky Brule (23:53.293)

I'm aware of it, but I haven't I'd never haunted it when I lived there

Jordan Mannon (23:58.1)

Yeah, so like I always did the Duluth City hunt and it was always nice because I would drive up probably. I think last year I drove up every single year or every single weekend to go hunting. I was like, I'm not going to miss a hunt. But it's not working weekends. I'm like, I'm not going to miss it at home. So I drove up and I was like, you know what? I'm going to go hunting. And of course, the one weekend I had to drive back to work a Sunday to help out.

Ricky Brule (24:09.442)

Yeah.

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (24:16.429)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (24:26.668)

And I was like, you know what, I'm going to go hunting. Even if I shoot, hopefully we just find it. can drive back the next day. Probably the only day I've ever called into work. Let's just say that. I felt really bad. But I went out and I was just, it was, I think, November when I shot my buck last year. I was losing so much hope. My dad was also hunting, but he was back at the house.

Ricky Brule (24:37.719)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (24:53.051)

And I was texting him and I'm like, dad, I don't think this is gonna be my year. Like I'm just, losing all faith in it. Like the weather last season was just like up and down. Like it was hot, it was cold, it was hot. And I was like, dear, just we're not consistent. So I was texting him, I was like, nope, I'm not gonna get anything. So then I put my phone away. I will admit I do take a good tree stand nap. They're pretty nice.

Ricky Brule (25:07.531)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (25:19.949)

Heck yeah.

Jordan Mannon (25:21.515)

So then I just had close my eyes a little bit and I open them back up. I look at my phone. I texted in my dad and he's like, it's gonna happen. Tonight's gonna be the night. And my camera goes off, which my camera's like maybe 30 yards, 35 yards in front of me.

Ricky Brule (25:40.919)

Okay, yeah.

Jordan Mannon (25:41.738)

And I was like, well that was kind of weird. And then next thing I know, like on the other side of me, I'm like, there's a deer. And I was like, well, I guess it's nice to the night. And right after waking up from a nap, ends up shooting a buck. I was like, but I think that was like, that was a really special moment for like my dad to actually like at least be there and like be tracking with me. Cause like even when he was with me when we found it the next morning, like.

He was just so happy, like he started crying. was like, okay, like this moment of being with each other, I'm like, probably my favorite.

Ricky Brule (26:16.983)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you get it. I'm I'm super excited, you know, for my daughter to get of age, you know, to start doing more hunting and stuff like that. And it's it's really fun to like watch the relationship that you have with your folks and and with your family. And you guys are very heavily faith driven to which I like that. I love seeing that it just but it's just really cool that

You know, you guys are all having a good time together. And then I think about that, like with my daughter. And I'm just like, man, I hope I have that relationship with my daughter. I really do. I really do. Because you just never know, right? Like you could be the best parent ever, you know? And you just never know how your children are going to turn out. But so far, so good. She's a little gem. And she's a blast. So she loves to get in the dirt and run around.

Jordan Mannon (26:55.537)

Yeah. Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (27:12.172)

I love it.

Ricky Brule (27:15.477)

And I got to give my wife all the credit because she spends the most time with her, but takes her out to waterfalls and hiking and all kinds of stuff. we can, we're building a little fort in the backyard now. So that's, that's kind of fun. Yeah. So I look forward to getting her, getting her out there. And, and I like that, there's role models out there like yourself, you know, for her to, for her to look up to. So keep, keep doing what you're doing. You're doing a good job.

Jordan Mannon (27:28.436)

that's amazing.

Jordan Mannon (27:41.519)

Yeah. Well, thank you. That's definitely one of my goals, especially ever since I started social media, is to eventually just do something to get youth into the outdoors. I definitely have like, I love the way that my parents helped raise me and just pushing me into the outdoors and not in front of a screen or front of a TV. And that's kind what I want to do is just teach the kids how to shoot a bow.

Ricky Brule (27:54.923)

Mm

Jordan Mannon (28:10.449)

go fishing and all that stuff. Show them what maybe they're not able to witness and they want to. So, I that would be fun. A fun direction to go to.

Ricky Brule (28:17.761)

Right. Yeah. There you go. Awesome. And then so, okay, so aside from your elk hunt, you've got every tag and every fishing stamp license, whatever Idaho offers. Any other plans? Any anything else coming up soon that you're planning on doing out there?

Jordan Mannon (28:32.262)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (28:36.016)

Thank you.

Jordan Mannon (28:41.958)

I just right now... Well, now that's just hunting season. I mean, I'm just gonna be a weekend warrior this year with working Monday through Friday, so any chance I can get, I'll probably just be in the mountains hunting mewlies after this elk hunt, so...

Ricky Brule (28:49.132)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (28:56.919)

Yeah. Right on. That's cool. And you're in a good environment here, in like the perfect environment, you know, being at Shields where, you know, I'm certain there's going to be some people that'll kind of show you around and help you out. I learned so much when I worked at the Sportsman's Warehouse. You know, I started in Fargo and then I was down in Minneapolis and I got to give so much credit to all the people that I worked with because I learned a ton from them.

Jordan Mannon (29:12.389)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (29:25.709)

from all those people, so.

Jordan Mannon (29:27.459)

Yeah, lot of them have definitely been willing to either give me some spots to go scout or they're like, you want to go with, you can come, which has been really nice because I know my parents aren't too fond of me going by myself. They're like, are you sure? There's a lot of just like with the mountain lions and wolves, I'm like, I think I'll be fine. But.

Ricky Brule (29:39.095)

Mm

Yeah, yeah.

Ricky Brule (29:52.14)

Yeah, always good to have someone with you though, just in case. mean, heck, even if you, I mean, not to say that you couldn't haul a whole deer or elk out yourself, I'm sure you could, but.

Jordan Mannon (30:00.106)

Yeah, it'd be nice to have some health, especially when there's usually no service.

Ricky Brule (30:04.929)

For sure. Right. Yeah. Yeah. When I was out there, it was we actually ran into a group of I think it was like six gentlemen from Wisconsin and they were all in their sixties and seventies. They had pack horses up there with them and well, two pack horses and and they were they were so cool. We would always there was like a a spring up on the top of the mountain that we had to hike up to to get water. And they were, of course, camped right by it. They're smart. We're not.

Jordan Mannon (30:17.602)

All of that business.

Jordan Mannon (30:34.459)

You

Ricky Brule (30:34.701)

But yeah, they offered, you know, they were like, yeah, if you shoot an elk, we'll help you pack it out. You know, you can use the horses and stuff. And it was just, it was super cool to, know, and I, I'd kind of tried to keep the communication going afterwards because we had exchanged phone numbers and stuff like that. But I know one of the guys had actually passed. And then it's almost like that.

Jordan Mannon (30:43.543)

That's amazing.

Jordan Mannon (30:53.97)

Yeah.

Okay.

Ricky Brule (31:01.623)

friend that passed like just kind of disbanded the whole group almost it was kind of a kind of a sad deal but anyways Welcome to the range everybody. I'm your host Ricky Brule and this is our segment of shiny objects. If you didn't get a chance to listen to the previous episode.

Jordan Mannon (31:57.145)

.

Ricky Brule (31:57.885)

I sat down with Jordan Mannin and she has, we have a great conversation about her archery origin story, her archery equipment. She had an upcoming elk hunt. We talked a little bit about her moving out to Idaho. She's got a great story about hunting with her brother. So make sure you head back, check that one out. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. This is our segment of shiny objects. The shiny object doesn't necessarily have to be an object. It can be.

an upcoming hunt, can be a song, can be a book, you name it, it's your shiny object. So Jordan, what is your current shiny object?

Jordan Mannon (32:32.548)

I would say my current shiny object right now is probably Idaho. Idaho is just my new thing, my new adventure.

Ricky Brule (32:44.031)

Mm hmm. Yeah, it's really cool. mean, just to, you know, growing up, you know, your, your entire life in the state of Minnesota, right. And then to be out in Idaho. See, now you had the pleasure of being in an area that had a little bit of terrain.

Jordan Mannon (33:01.126)

Yeah, not so flat.

Ricky Brule (33:02.859)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because like when I moved from, you know, farming town Crookston to Duluth, that was like the mountains to me when I first moved there.

Jordan Mannon (33:11.582)

Yeah, isn't that crazy? It's like the more like you go up the North Shore and you're like, okay, there's some hills to hike. And now it's like, now I'm here and I'm like,

Ricky Brule (33:20.791)

Mm -hmm. But like I got complacent, you know what I mean? Like you every day you come up over the hill and you're and you like see the lake and it's beautiful, but you kind of just start to forget it's there almost, you know, sometimes like you're just like doing your thing and also like, wow, that's right. We have the largest lake in the, you know, North America right here in our yard.

Jordan Mannon (33:29.823)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (33:33.511)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (33:41.088)

Yeah. And that's what's crazy like with moving out here. It's like, I definitely miss all those lakes. It's crazy how much I miss being able to drive 25, 30 minutes either direction of myself and be at a lake.

Ricky Brule (33:54.581)

Mm -hmm. Yeah, right. Yeah, I suppose that.

Jordan Mannon (33:57.896)

It's just kind of something that I feel like people here haven't really understood when I tell them. I'm like, could literally drive anywhere and I'd find a lake really fast.

Ricky Brule (34:07.669)

Right, right. Yeah. Yeah, I think was Island Lake was one of my favorite places to go.

Jordan Mannon (34:14.043)

Yeah, island lake and fish like were probably my biggest ones. Good fishing. I miss my walleyes. Yeah.

Ricky Brule (34:17.653)

Yeah. Right. Yeah. Well, Minnesota gold, right?

Jordan Mannon (34:24.454)

Yeah, for sure.

Ricky Brule (34:26.561)

Well, yeah, I can imagine it makes sense that that would be your shiny object. And you've been there for like six months, so I imagine it hasn't lost its luster quite yet.

Jordan Mannon (34:39.358)

No, I feel like there's so many places that people are like, have you gone here? Have you gone there? like, no, I've only maybe the farthest I've gone is four hours out of like the Boise area. And I'm like, there's so much still to see. And it's never it never gets old.

Ricky Brule (34:52.107)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (34:55.393)

Right? Yeah. And you're super, you're really cool. How far of a drive is it to Yellowstone for you?

Jordan Mannon (35:05.6)

I don't know for sure, but it's probably not that far. I don't think it'd be that bad of a drive.

Ricky Brule (35:13.163)

I'm going to look it up. I'm going to guess like two and a half hours. Let's see. Wow, not even close. Not even close. Well, I guess it kind of depends. If you're going to Yellowstone National Park, it is just under six hours.

Jordan Mannon (35:28.648)

far is it?

Jordan Mannon (35:37.671)

I guess that's still not bad.

Ricky Brule (35:39.757)

No, not at all, because it's like 14 on the grid for me.

Jordan Mannon (35:41.914)

It would be worth it. Like I just had a friend drive to Glacier and I feel like to be able to drive to Glacier, I feel like that's one of my goals to do. Because I'm like, if I could just drive to it and it's so pretty, so.

Ricky Brule (35:52.769)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you are. You're pretty centrally located, which is nice. A friend of mine, you probably know him, Sam Soholt. I just was chatting with him a few days ago. His wife is a traveling OT, and they spent some time in Idaho. And he said that was like my favorite part because you were just you were so close to everything, you know, since like

Jordan Mannon (36:00.516)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (36:16.124)

Yeah, that's for sure. It's like, it's nice I can drive like 25, 30 minutes and at least be in the hills. And so it's nice to be able to do that. Like I do that almost every day after work.

Ricky Brule (36:22.295)

Yeah, yeah.

Ricky Brule (36:27.839)

Mm -hmm. Yeah, I would love to just be able to just go, you know what? I'm gonna just pack up. I'm gonna go roll into the mountains and just, you know, camp wherever I end up, man. That would be awesome.

Jordan Mannon (36:38.166)

Yeah, that was like I went, so it's McCall, Idaho. It's about two and a half, almost three hours north of me. And I just went on a hike with Logan, actually, to show him around. And there's just like this lake that we hiked up to, and it was just absolutely amazing. So it's just to be able to have that is. Yeah, awesome.

Ricky Brule (36:56.599)

Yeah, yeah, that's cool.

Ricky Brule (37:01.761)

Yeah, yeah. And so speaking of Logan. So he. He works for the Saint Cloud Shield store. He does creates content for them, correct? He does like photos and videos and.

Jordan Mannon (37:18.65)

I don't know if he still is, I know he was. But yeah, so that's how I met him was through Shields. And then I know he, we talked about it before I moved. He was like, I want to see Idaho so bad. And then I'm like, well come out. I'm like, I literally have a place you can stay. I have a coach. I'll show you around, so.

Ricky Brule (37:27.659)

Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm.

Ricky Brule (37:38.379)

Yeah, Yeah, no, it's awesome because he so yeah, he him and then our one of the guys that creates assets and things for us at vapor trail and that still cries Damon Wolf. They share an office space together and then Logan has taken some shots for prime where I was the talent and yeah, he's just in.

Jordan Mannon (37:54.945)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (38:04.153)

Yeah.

Ricky Brule (38:05.601)

I think, well, we actually had him on pro staff last year for Vapor Trail and Stokerize, but we just kind of, it was kind of silly to even do that because he was just out there getting the content and getting all that stuff anyways. And so I was like, well, that's just, there's, there's no sense in like having all these, you know, restrictions and things that you have to do. So we'll just, you know, we'll just work it out, whatever you need, just let me know. And we'll just take care of it the content was all the products were already in the content. So

Jordan Mannon (38:33.811)

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he was like, we'll get some content. was like, well, perfect. It was perfect timing, too, because I just got my bow set up with all my new stuff on it. So.

Ricky Brule (38:34.529)

that was kind cool that it worked out for him to come out there and then get photos and video of you with our equipment.

Mm

Mm -hmm. Yeah, he's a good kid for sure. He's very talented. So, yeah, I guess, you know, my shiny object, everybody already knows what my shiny object is, but there is one thing that I want to talk about. It's a little bit different than what we usually talk about, but I started, I don't have a lot of time to watch a lot of TV, but I started watching a series on Netflix that just kind of blew my mind and it's.

Jordan Mannon (38:52.107)

Yeah, very.

Ricky Brule (39:15.339)

I think it's called Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War. it's a story of Tombstone. And Tombstone is like one of my all time favorite movies from back in the day. And it's kind of a, it's just a wild, like, you know, just a more accurate depiction of the story and how everything kind of went down and how everything's tied together with like JP Morgan and the Wells Fargo bank and just all, it's pretty wild. It's kind of a cool,

cool show and I don't want to give away too much but for the listeners out there who haven't if you're into that kind of stuff you're into the western scene and all that and and you know I know a lot of people of my generation are big fans of the movie tombstone make sure you check that out because that was pretty cool so yeah I guess that's that's kind of my shiny object I mean aside from I guess there's one other thing too and that's me and my daughter are she wanted to build a fort in the backyard

Jordan Mannon (39:51.045)

.

Ricky Brule (40:15.487)

So we are actually going to be building a shelter, like a primitive shelter in the backyard that is inspired by, Idaho's very own Clay Hayes, who also won Alone season eight. So our shelter is inspired by the one that he built out in the wilderness on the Alone TV show. So that's the other thing we're doing every day. Come home, start cutting trees and stuff and getting the old fort built up.

Jordan Mannon (40:20.055)

I love that.

Ricky Brule (40:44.843)

So that's, guess, my shiny object. I'm excited for when it gets done. She is just like, every day I'm like, Hey, do want to build a fort today? And she's like, just the glow in her eyes is just, she just, yeah. And right now the process is fairly limited. There's not, you know, we're, just like cutting trees down and stuff and swinging an ax. So she has to watch from a distance, but.

Jordan Mannon (40:49.065)

I love that.

Jordan Mannon (40:59.538)

Like, yeah, dad, of course I do.

Ricky Brule (41:13.647)

Once we get all the trees and all the materials sorted out, then she'll be able to hold pieces of material and we'll be able to start binding stuff together. So yeah, it's been a lot of fun.

Jordan Mannon (41:24.466)

I'm excited to see it when it's done.

Ricky Brule (41:26.975)

Yeah, yeah, we're, we're, I'm filming the whole process from, from beginning to end. And I'll probably start throwing some teasers out there once I actually have some content that I can create, but there's only so much you can, you know, it's little bite sized pieces and getting the process done. Cause then it's like, dad, swing me in the hammock and Hey, check out this frog. And so it's like, so it's like, yeah, exactly. So

Jordan Mannon (41:38.706)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (41:49.151)

Yeah, it's like, squirrel.

Ricky Brule (41:54.465)

But I have a tendency I can get really hyper focused. And so I have to just be just kind of, OK, yeah, let's go over here and let's do that. We'll get it done eventually. We'll get there.

Jordan Mannon (41:59.048)

Yeah.

Jordan Mannon (42:07.204)

Yeah, I mean, at least hey, at least she's wanting to be outside and not inside watching something. So she's just enjoying that, enjoying that time with you.

Ricky Brule (42:12.619)

Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. It's awesome. It's a ton of fun. So. Well, all right. Well, folks, that brings us to the end of this episode. Jordan, thanks again so much for your time today. I really appreciate it. Yeah, for sure. Where can where can people find you if they want to see what you've been up to?

Jordan Mannon (42:28.67)

Thank you, Ricky.

Jordan Mannon (42:36.151)

they can find me on Instagram at Jordan Mannin. There's an extra N after Jordan N Mannin. and then also Facebook, just my name, Jordan Mannin. And yeah, life updates will be there almost usually every day. So.

Ricky Brule (42:53.321)

Awesome. Awesome. Well, we look forward to seeing how things go for your season coming up this year. Keep in touch with me on the elk hunting trip. Good luck with all of that. Really excited for you to have some success out there.
