In this episode of the Wisconsin Sportsman Podcast, Josh talks with turkey calling extraordinaire and four time Grand National Calling Champion Scott Ellis about building a turkey hunting playbook. Each hunt and each gobbler is different, so it’s important to have a bank of plays to run no matter the scenario. The deeper your playbook is, the greater your chances of being successful on stubborn longbeards. Scott and Josh discuss a few ways to help you build out your playbook and fill more turkey tags this spring.
Scott is a turkey calling champion, author, and host of Hunt Quest. He’s also an accomplished hunter. Cutting his teeth hunting Osceolas in Florida, Scott travels each year chasing Toms across the country and has completed two single season Grand Slams and two Royal Slams.
In this episode, Scott mentions that he wants to be remembered as the guy who shared his knowledge of turkey hunting with the masses and help others be more successful. Toward that end, Scott has produced lots of tools to help you become a better turkey caller including his DVDs, Mouth Call Magic 1 & 2, and his app, Turkey Tech which is available in the App Store and Google Play. The turkey tech app features how-to videos featuring Scott using both friction and mouth calls, live turkey recordings, and a recording feature that allows you to record your own calling and compare that to the calls of wild turkeys.
