The Hunting Knife to Rule Them All Pt. 2

Show Notes

Knife making is both an art and a science. In today's episode, Jacob continues to examine the dynamics of the steel composition of high end knives and the implications of that composition. There are a lot of steels that were created in the 1940's to 1960's (A2 Tool Steel, D2 Tool Steel) that were specific for the manufacturing industry and are still used in high end hunting knives today. But what do knife steels look like as they evolved in the early 2000's and what do knife steels look like now as they evolved in the 2020's. There are often tradeoffs between toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. But is it possible to create a steel that has balance across these 3 knife steel dynamics. And, if so, what options are out there now for those looking for that balance of properties. Thanks for listening and enjoy!
