Ricky in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wildernessv

Big Game

Public Land

In this episode, Ricky is on location in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is 1.1 million acres of pristine Boreal Forest that spreads across the Northeastern tip of Minnesota. The BWCA has over 1000 lakes, more than 1200 miles of canoe routes, 12 hiking trails and over 2000 designated campsites. Hunters and Fisherman alike, seek refuge from the hustle and bustle of the world, to find world class fishing, as well as ruffed grouse, whitetail deer and bear hunting opportunities.

Ricky has frequented the BWCA for much of his adult life, however, his passion for protecting the pristine wilderness, has prompted an increase in time spent. On a recent solo canoe trip, shortly after a severe thunderstorm rolled through, Ricky discusses his day to day activities. Among them were the repair of a canoe seat, the making of a cup, and using primitive techniques to light fire and build shelters. Ricky also details the experiences he is having, both physically and mentally.

The BWCA is under threat by from proposed sulfide-ore copper mining at its headwaters. For more information and to find you how you can help, visit @sportsmenbwca .

UNCENSORED by GoWild

Snake Bites & Early Season Prep

Big Game
Bowhunting
Whitetail
Gear

In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild presented by GunBroker.com, we talk all about snakes, scouting, and some of the best places to find deer on public land.

We start out the episode talking about snakes, snake bites, and hypotheticals on what the crew would do in a snake bite situation. We’d all like to think we could grab the snake in that situation but really we’d all be high tailing it out of there. We talk about what happens after a snake bite and if all venomous snake bites actually inject venom into you. Brad talks about scouting during peak snake season and being absolutely on high alert the entire time while out in the woods. What do you guys do to make sure you’re avoiding snakes during peak season? Brad also talks about how a rookie mistake scouting using online maps cost him some serious elevated hiking! Quick tip, don’t forget to turn the elevation back onto your maps before you show up to go through the woods!

Next up Derek talks about his recent weekend and preparing for the upcoming hunting season. One last trip out on the boat fishing, now he’s got it put up for winter because his focus is completely shifted to hunting! A trip out scouting has left him with a mysterious bite on his arm, probably a spider, hopefully not a tick because it’s looking a little gnarly.! He does some scouting for the upcoming duck season especially for wood ducks, he spent some time on the WMA checking a few promising looking honey holes. Listen in to see if he found any success scouting!

We close out talking about public hunting. The general consensus is always you have to put in the work and the miles past where anyone else would go to have the best success but we have a conversation on if whitetail sometimes hang out closer to the road or where people walk in at. While there’s tons of success if you put in the extra miles we talk about success

and deer signs for the people who decide to hunt closer to the road and how there’s success there.

If you like what you’re hearing, please leave us a rate and review!!

[UNCENSORED] by GoWild kicks off your week with shameful nonsense, inappropriate convictions, and unfiltered tales from the woods, waters and whatevers. How much thought have you put into your camo system heading into the season? Sure you've got your treestands dialed in, you know how to get that saddle feeling just right, you've shot your bow and have your pack filled with just the right gadgets. But your camo is some of the most important gear you bring into the woods with you. It's often responsible for you spending more time on stand or heading back to the truck. That means it's often the one thing that had, or didn't have, you in the stand when the buck walked through. So, how much thought have you put into your camo system this year?

In this episode of the How to Hunt Deer Podcast, Josh talks with Nate Sellers of Huntworth and Average Jack Archery about Huntworth's camo lineup and archery gear. Huntworth makes high quality camo as a fraction of the price of some of the big names out there. They've got gear to keep you cool for the early season, warm in the late season, and comfortable all season long.  If you haven't already, you should check them out!

What a week!!!  The guys are celebrating episode number 100 this week with a sit down chat with none other than the Legend himself, Tony Peterson.  Tony has been one of the favorite guests of the show over the years, giving his advice on anything from White tails, Dogs, Turkeys, Space and more.  This week he joins to talk about some of the “controversial” topics in the hunting woods.  The emperor, Dan Johnson, was supposed to have joined the show as well, but instead the crew does a little roasting of our favorite DJ.

The guys have been busy getting geared up for the season as we inch closer.  A lot happening around Ohio including the fall festival at Fort Loramie State Park, seasons opening and more.

Make sure you find the 100th Epiosde post on GoWild and IG, like it, follow the partners of the show, and be entered in to the drawing for some cool gifts. Looking forward to another 100 episodes!!!

Insane History of Han Solo’s Blaster & RoboCop’s Auto 9

Big Game
Firearms
Gear

In this week’s No Lowballers podcast by GoWild presented by GunBroker.com, we’re talking all about imaginary pop culture firearms and what real guns they were built from. We open up talking about RoboCop’s Auto 9 and how it’s a fictionalized build of a Beretta 93r, one of Allen’s absolute grail guns. Brad speaks on how the original plan for RoboCop’s firearm was to be a Desert Eagle and just how much that would’ve changed the entire tone of the movie. Do you think the Auto 9 was the right choice or would it have been better if RoboCop used a Desert Eagle?

Next up, Logan rolls us into the world of Star Wars and the amazing pop culture firearms that have come from the movies, but one sits atop them all…Han Solo’s Blaster. Talk about a movie icon, there’s not a much more recognizable movie firearm. Although not real, the DL-44 Blaster has an awesome backstory as an over the top firearm that was not standard issue. The DL-44 Blaster can actually be recreated in the real world with it being a modified Mauser C96.

We circle around to the recent sale price of the real Modified Mauser C96 used by Han Solo in the Star Wars films with an estimated sales price between $300,000-$500,000. Can you guess what the actual sales price was?

Closing out, Allen talks about the model 1917 revolver from the original Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, and what the average starting price for the auction is. Listen in to see where the auction starts!

Hey everyone, welcome to episode 190 of the Antler Up Podcast!

On this week's episode I was joined by my great friend Jim D’Agostino!  You should know Jim if you have listened to the podcast over the years and if you’re new to the show then buckle up because he is one of a kind.  A great human, friend, archer and hunter.  Jim over the last couple of years has helped me tremendously with my shooting.  We wanted to have an episode before the season kicks off state wide here in PA.  Jim will be embarking on the opener this weekend for the 5C unit here in PA.  This is a discussion we get into and a whole lot more! It is always a great time when I get a chance to record with one of my great friends!

We begin this episode by hearing Jim discuss what is new in his world and how he is really excited for this upcoming season.  To start out with he will be hunting the early aspect of the PA season in 5C.  He gained access to a new private area and was able to get eyes on a few really good deer.  We chat about some other areas that he worked on to be better for this year and discussed his 3D season where Jim was able to one and be on the podium for a few others.  We just had a real good BS session that I hope you all will enjoy as well! So, tune in and listen to some stories and a fun conversation with Jim!  Enjoy this fun episode and see you next week!

Thanks again for all the support and best of luck out there and Antler Up!

On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, Mitch catches up with owner and operator of Little Mountain Outfitters in Richland, PA, Devon Zimmerman. Devon is a diehard bowhunter that loves to tinker with archery equipment and share his knowledge and experience. For most of his bowhunting career, Devon has chosen to shoot mechanical broadheads with moderate arrow weights between 450-525 grains. With the popularity growing in FOC, heavy arrows, single bevel and machined broadheads, he decided to find out for himself.

Last year, the setup that tuned well in his bow was over 600 grains, tipped with a VPA broadhead with over 200 grains of the weight in the front. Devon had a good sample size in year one shooting multiple doe and a nice buck throughout October and November. From those experiences, he decided to shoot something very similar again this year. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages among both commonly used arrow setups, why he feels this current arrow works well for him, but ultimately is not for everyone. No matter where you land in the debate of arrow setups, every experienced bowhunter's perspective is an opportunity for us to learn something new or approach this from a different angle. Regardless, make ethical shot decisions for your setup and capabilities! Thanks for listening!

Arrow Myth Busting with Jeromy Chamberlain

There are quite a few "experts" out there these days when it comes to arrows. But one major problem is many of these experts don't seem to agree on much of anything. Some say you need to shoot 750 grain arrows or you're doing it wrong. Others opt for a 350 grain speed demon. Some swear by mechanical broadheads. Some won't shoot anything but a 200 grain single bevel head. Some are sticking by the tried and true standard diameter arrows. Some insist that micro diameter arrows are the only way to get good penetration and minimize the impact of wind on the arrow's flight. Who's right????

In this episode of the Wisconsin Sportsman, Josh & Pierce talk with JC from Pappa's Trading Post to bust some arrow setup myths. The guys touch on arrow weight, shafts, spine, FOC, and of course, broadheads. Along the way, toes are stepped on, myths are busted, and some crappy products are just straight called out. If you're looking for folks folks to shoot your straight when talking arrows, then this episode is for you! Enjoy!

Habitat

In this episode, Jon Teater (Whitetail Landscapes), Colin Koskinen (Legendary Habitat), and Brad Harper (Harper Growing Solutions) discuss the benefits of liquid products on food plots and why to switch from granular fertilizers. Colin explains the foliar and drenching sprays that Brad offers to increase plant productivity.  Brad's products are well known by food plotters and some are carbon based, equating to better interaction with our crops.

Brad Harper discusses frequently asked questions that come up with clients’ every day. Brad discusses simple ways to calibrate your sprayer that will help save money. Brad explains where to start before applying a foliar spray to crops. Brad explains the negative on applying generic rates of fertilizer, herbicide or foliar, and why some users are inefficient and not economical.  Brad details more about liquid calcium and how its application is easier and works extremely fast to improve soils and the benefit to plants.

Jon asks Brad if applying pulverized or granular lime verse liquid lime is better for long term sustainability and soil health. Brad explains why it might be better to use both or either lime products and specific examples of why amending the pH matters with soils. Brad explains the negative when applying synthetic fertilizers to soils. Brad details the importance of using cover crops and how soils can degrade over time.

Colin provides specific examples of the results of Plot Doctor on his food plots and what the soils samples show after a few years of usage.  Jon explains the ways he looks at plants and ways to think about the change after applying foliar sprays and why he focuses on certain types of nutrients that are deficient. Brad discusses how to process foliar ingredients or herbicides and how to apply the products in a solution before application. Brad ends with last minute food plot considerations that will support increased tonnage per acre.

We have actual hunting to talk about this week on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast! John headed to Nebraska to hunt their early September 1st opener and was hit with some tough challenges. Even though John was welcomed with hotter than average temperatures and drought type conditions, he still put his nose to the grindstone and had several good hunts, including a face to face encounter with a full velvet 10 point buck!

There were several good lessons learned on this trip. John quickly realized that just because soybeans are still green, that doesn't mean they're still attractive. He also knew that water would be important, but when it's that hot and that dry, water is everything. John also had his first experience saddle hunting, and talks about some of the advantages and disadvantages to hunting out of a saddle vs a traditional hang on stand.

In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we talk all about the upcoming deer season, it’s definitely crunch time. Brayden talks about moving trail cameras to new spots to hopefully catch some real big mature whitetails coming through to hopefully pattern before season opener. Jacob speaks on not having sighted his bow even though season is right around the corner. Any of you guys wait until the last moment to get your bow dialed in?

We then dive into Dan’s upcoming draw hunt at land between the lakes. We talked about the kit for his trip, what he plans to take, and his plan on camping in his truck. He talks about checking OnX for his draw to see what his zone looks like; map wise he thinks it looks phenomenal. Dan and Brayden go into learning thermals for hunting and just how complicated it is but if done correctly can absolutely pay off. Dan mentions going scouting soon for his hunt, because he learned the hard way that scouting off of map images isn’t always what you expect it’s going to be!

Jacob speaks on his recent trip to Toccoa River in Georgia that he cannot recommend enough for a fun fishing trip. He fished both the upper and lower parts of Lake Blue Ridge catching some nice trout while wading in abnormally shallow water that he couldn’t quite figure out why the fish were hanging out in it. The next day he goes on a float trip with a group of guys, and it was absolutely painfully slow. Pro-tip make sure you float when the dam is turned on to make the trip go at a decent speed.

Wrapping up the episode Dan updates us on his upcoming total eclipse plans for next year after searching high and low for a reasonable AirBnB. His awesome plans include being on a kayak in the middle of the lake for the eclipse, talk about an awesome experience! Over the last couple of years, new opportunities to chase velvet bucks have opened up for southern hunters. One of the earliest is found in the great state of Tennessee. Each year, hunters have the chance to hunt velvet bucks in August on private lands with archery tackle or on some select public lands within Tennessee's CWD unit. While the conditions are anything but pleasant, unpressured deer with a more layed-back August temperament make the hunt worth while.

On this Episode of Huntavore, September is here and the final push to season opener for whitetails is here upon us. Nick walks through his archery equipment and how he checks the condition of very vital gear. Later he breaks down the contents of a recovery bag and his own kill kit for making life easier and cleaner when bringing home the harvest. Lots of good tasks to add to your to do list on this episode of Huntavore.

Nick starts out with a run through of his archery setup; saddle, sticks, platform, bow, & arrow. Getting the stand pieces organized, and essential parts checked for damage or wear is a priority at the moment. Only real change this year is switching to a framed pack. He purchased the F1 Mainframe with two batwing pouches. While it’s not been tested in the whitetail woods, the pack served Nick very well chasing elk. Light and study, modular and expandable, Nick hopes for more stability than his frameless pack.

Kill bags can range from full kits in the deep wilderness, to a sealable freezer bag with a few essentials. Preparing for success can make the recovery process a whole heck of a lot easier.

My whitetail kill kit:

All fits in Quart sealable freezer bag; 3’ x 3’ folded plastic sheet or contractors bag, Gallon sealable freezer bag, Gloves, 2 blue shop towel sheets, A folding replaceable blade knife, Length of paracord.

Tossed in the pack pocket: Fixed blade, bull nosed gut hook knife,Hoof shackles/ drag rope

Elk or deep woods add ons:

Bigger ground cover, Honing stone/steel or sharpener, Another knife, Bone saw, Game bags, A bit more length of paracord

Items to consider:

Butt out II, Roll of TP, Game Cart/electric bike saddle bags, Meat hauler pack

Dan and Scott work through the history of Dialed as a company and the process in which became the die-hard hunter that he is today.

007’s Pistol’s Past & Dirty Harry’s Dirty Little Secrets

Big Game
Firearms
Gear

In this week’s No Lowballers podcast by GoWild presented by GunBroker.com, we’re talking all about real pop culture firearms such as the Walther PPK and the Smith & Wesson Model 29. We start the episode off diving into the history of the Walther PPK and how it made its way into the James Bond films. Logan delves into the history of the PPK and how it’s dated back to the early 1930s before being used by Germans in WWII, some of these early models had a requirement for the magazine to be serialized and match the gun’s serial number. Logan has a magazine that is serialized and is always looking to be able to pair that magazine to its original gun. We talk on how we got introduced to the Walther PPK through Bond, while iconic to the movies almost all of us have stronger memories of using it playing 007 Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64. How were you introduced to the Walther PPK?

Next up, maybe one of, if not if THE most iconic movie guns…Dirty Harry’s Smith & Wesson Model 29. Smith & Wesson were in a bad spot with the Model 29, almost completely scraping it from their lineup until the success of Dirty Harry pushed it to the forefront of the spotlight, causing national backorder for many years. Brad asked about the value of firearm memorabilia from movies comparing both real firearms and prop guns. While credible proof of them being used in a movie carries value, the real firearms generally carry a much heftier price tag. Logan tells his story of how he’s tied to Dirty Harry’s Model 29, and you guys will absolutely not believe it, make sure you listen in to hear his cool story.

We end the episode with Dan talking about the two most iconic movies from his childhood. He starts a conversation about how the impracticality of a gun in a movie makes it more memorable to people who watch. Logan retouches on a previous episode about the takedown lever action rifle from John Wick 4, Mad Pig Customs reached out and set the record straight on if it’s a real gun or a fantasy gun. Make sure to listen through the end of the podcast to see the answer on this awesome gun.

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles deer hunting podcast, Dan catches up with Jeremy Dinsmore of the Antler Up podcast to discuss the results of his recent out of state scouting mission. The guys kick off the episode the only way then know how, by an in-depth conversation about college football and the realignment of conferences. Then Dan asks Jeremy a couple really dumb questions about his last name and how it reminds him of beef stew. Finally, the guys get in to the meat and potatoes of the episode and talk about Jeremy's recent scouting trip to Ohio looking for places to hunt on public property. Jeremy explains what he found, when he plans on going back to hunt, what he thinks his access routes will be, and how wind and thermals will impact all of his hunting decisions. This is an excellent episode where two serious hunters break down a piece of property and talk about the strategy Jeremy plans to use on this upcoming hunt.

Pennsylvania Woodsman - A Grain Farmer's Perspective on Whitetails

Big Game

Whitetail

On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, we are taking a slightly different course. With deer season right around the corner, we've been focused on preparation. From strategies to harvest your target, to meat preparation, we've got you covered for this fall. But everything revolves around filling an antlered deer tag these days. What about antlerless deer? Are enough being harvested in your area?

This week's guest is Dustin Kieffer from Mark M Kieffer and Son. Dustin is a third generation grain farmer in central Pennsylvania, farming around 3200 acres. After a quick back story on the operation, we dive into a controversial topic - too many deer. This episode does not have any motive or suggestion to the problem. It's simply to provide you the listener, a different perspective in the community. We discuss the changes in deer pressure over the previous decades, and how this operation is adjusting it's farming practices to the ever growing deer population in this region of the state.  We as deer hunters are not the only ones who appreciate deer. Some people depend on us harvesting them for their income!

In this episode, Ricky and Hollywood have a chat with Sam Soholt of Public Land Tees and the main topic of conversation is Conservation.

Sam and his brother Josh have dedicated much of their lives to conserving wildlife, as well as preserving the tradition of the hunt. Instead of reinventing the wheel, they started a campaign to raise conservation funds known as “Stamp It Forward”. The campaign has contributed to the purchase of thousands of Federal Duck Stamps, infusing tens of thousands of dollars into Wetland Conservation. Of those dollars, 98% by law, must be used for Wetland Conservation.

As Sam mentions, “What’s good for the bird, is good for the herd”. Wetland conservation provides habitat for over 700 different species of animals, including small and big game. This year, they have stepped it up a notch with the 100 Mile Duck Ruck. Sam will hike 100 miles, through the Prairie Pothole region, in an attempt to earn the funds pledged for the campaign. Sam is swinging for the fences to raise $100,000! Head over to publiclandtees.com/duckruck to participate. Link will also be in our bio.

We open the episode with Dan talking all about his upcoming plans for the 2024 total solar eclipse. He talks all in detail about his first time experiencing a total eclipse and just how amazing it was. Listen in to hear his favorite parts about it. He gives some pointers on finding out the perfect spots on where to experience this for yourself and how he believes everyone needs to experience it at least once in their life.

Next up Derek tells all about his recent trip to Tennessee to scout for bears and fish! While bear scouting he found an absolute gem of a fishing spot that yielded an awesome time catching small mouths. Judging by the map this spot is rarely ever fished and he could definitely tell by how they reacted. The fishing was good enough that next year he’s already planning a two-day float trip down the river. He also spends some time talking about the tooth data of his bear he harvested in Colorado last year. Super interesting information on the average age of bears that were harvested in Colorado last season.

Closing out this episode Jacob talks about the trip with Craig Arnold the winner of the GoWild x Federal Ammunition sweepstakes and their weekend with Jim Gilliland. Talking about an eye opening experience learning tons of information, Jacob definitely has some easier ways to sight in his rifle this season! Jim gave some awesome tips on using a tripod in various shooting situations to create a shooting bench as well as some long range shooting pointers for Jacob and Craig.

We live in a technology driven world these days, so why not use that technology to our advantage? Rhett Acker of Oklahoma Drone Recovery Company joins John on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast this week to talk about how drones could help you recover more deer. Rhett was well prepared for this episode and brought a lot of knowledge to the table. Not just about recovering deer, but also animal behavior, and even more importantly the laws surrounding recovering animals with drone and thermal technology.

One thing John wanted to be sure to cover in this episode, is the advantages and disadvantages of both tracking dogs and drones when it comes to recovering downed game. Rhett actually sought out dog owners to learn from them and get their take on the subject as well. Whether you are pro or anti more technology in hunting, this is an important episode to listen to. While there are certainly advantages to using tools like drones in the outdoors, there is definitely an open door for them to be used in the wrong way and Rhett does a great job of covering that topic as well.

In this episode of the Southern Way Hunting Podcast, Josh talks with Taylor Philpot and Justin Grogan of Revive Outdoors about their TN velvet hunt success. Both guys were able to fill their tags with velvet bucks, but that's where the similarities in their stories end. For this episode, the guys share a bit about Revive Outdoors, how they became hunting buddies, and the story of Justin's velvet 8 point buck.

The challenges of hunting the early season have led many to overthink what's actually pretty simple. Notice I didn't say it's easy. It can be really, really tough. But it is simple. Cold War Weapons Are Hot

Firearms

In this week’s No Lowballers podcast by GoWild presented by GunBroker.com, we’re talking all about Russian Cold War Weapons!

If one of us disappears by the end of the show, you know why. We open up with a discussion about how exactly to pronounce Makarov, pretty sure we still don’t have it down yet! Logan and Allen go into a discussion of the origin of the Makarov. From the ammo to the firearm itself, the Makarov has a super interesting background. With an extremely long shelf life from 1951 until present, the Makarov has been a staple in Russia and other communist countries. Dan asks a question about manufacturers of Makarovs specifically during the Cold War, the motto was if the government says you make Makarovs...you make Makarovs.

Then we pivot to the Stechkin APS, a select-fire machine pistol, by your fourth shot you’re sending lead at passing planes! The Stechkin had a very short shelf life, mostly due to the complete impracticality of them specifically in military scenarios, albeit they are super fun guns to shoot. While you can still find a Stechkin today, they are nowhere near as widely available as the Makarov, with many bringing a very large premium.

We spend some time talking movies and how the bad guys always have the Russian firearms! Spoiler alert, if the good guy pulls out a Makarov, chances are he won’t be the good guy for long. Do you know of a movie where the good guy carried a Makarov? Another movie easter egg proves that we may have some double agents at the table, listen in to see how we know who it is!

Allen gives us a run down on Russian surplus guns available on GunBroker.com and how the market is changing due to parts kits being harder to source.

In this episode, Jon Teater (Whitetail Landscapes) and Eric Hansen (Just Hunt Club) discuss Box Blinds and why they are a primary consideration for hunters. Eric explains how he started with man-made box blinds and why he has changed to manufactured build blinds.  Eric explains his style of hunting and the benefit of hunting blinds and how manufactured blinds have made hard to hunt areas much easier.

Eric explains why he prefers wooden platforms versus metal stands. Eric identifies the height of his blinds and Jon discusses why box blinds within food plots, like corn, may not be the best option for hunters. Eric discusses using terrain and vegetation to create cover around a blind and how to create movement patterns that move deer more efficiently toward and past blinds.

Eric identifies pros and cons of each type of manufactured blind and what attributes of each blind he uses that are beneficial. Eric explains why Redneck blinds are his predominant choice on his property and how he is excited to use their larger version. Eric explains crop rotations and how he uses corn and why interseeding into corn is very difficult for most. Therefore, it is important to think about food plot layout and food preferences.

Eric and Jon discuss deer hunting differences in locations they are familiar with and the safety benefits of hunting out of a box blind. Each contributor gets into various topics about taking kids hunting, as well as other styles of hunting and things they are focused on this upcoming season.

We are very excited to get the chance to talk with no other than Jason Phelps on the Missouri Woods & Water Podcast this week.  Nate and Micah got to sit down with Jason and discuss all kinds of fun things.  We get into our bow set ups, then naturally talk about elk with him, and also talk about Jason's first whitetail experience last season.  This episode was a blast to record and we hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording it.

Velvet Whitetails with Chris Hammond

It felt like the day would never come, but the 2023 deer season is underway! Professional archer Chris Hammond is this week's guest on the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, and he has quite a September ahead of him. This episode timed out perfectly with John's upcoming trip to Nebraska as well, so the guys get together to talk about early season velvet hunts. This year Chris will be hunting Tennessee's early velvet season, Kentucky's early September season, and then he heads west to Wyoming with several of the Mathew's team shooters to chase mule deer.

John's only September hunt is his trip to Nebraska which he hopes to now make a yearly tradition. The guys talk about early season topics like hunting bed to food patterns, corn vs beans, water holes, and how terrible mosquitoes can be when hunting so early in the season. They take a little time to discuss Oklahomas proposed velvet season and the effect it could have on the state's hunters and deer herd.

Horsing Around Hunting

Big Game
Bowhunting
Whitetail

In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we talk about the upcoming hunting season. We start off with Dan Johnson getting into a story about hostile horses that he deals with on a piece of property he hunts. These horses absolutely do not want to see Dan coming through. From messing with his truck, making tons of noise in the woods, all the way to even picking him up! Yes, you read that correctly! Listen in to see how a horse picked him up completely off the ground while he was trying to whitetail hunt!

Next up Brayden talks about getting out and scouting for this upcoming hunting season. He talks about the

logistics of how he’s figuring out where these big mature bucks are and where he can get to them on a chokepoint. With some real dandies on camera this season, he’s super excited to go after them! Dan and Brayden get into a talk about how helpful it is to pattern mature does that then help you pattern the mature bucks. Dan speaks adamantly about just how important this is and how many people do not take the time to do so. If you can pattern your mature does early season, it could potentially pay off huge dividends during the rut.

We end our episode with Derek telling all about his recent troubles getting his bow dialed in. Different sights, same issues! What do you think was causing his bow to shoot low every shot? Hunting season is just around the corner, make sure to subscribe to hear all our upcoming hunting content.

[UNCENSORED] by GoWild kicks off your week with shameful nonsense, inappropriate convictions, and unfiltered tales from the woods, waters and whatevers. [UNCENSORED] is a behind the scenes look at our adventures, failures, wins, embarrassing moments at trade shows, hilarious tales from the warehouse, and a good rant or three about the most recent tyranny from the Dark Lord of the Sith himself.

The show launches every Monday morning. Subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.

River Fishing with Tony Fellows

Fishing
Strategy
Public Land
Gear

Tony Fellows hopped on Michigan Wild this week to share his experience river fishing. Tony's first memory of fishing was heading to the river with his dad where they targeted trout. Unlike Nate who grew up pond and small lake fishing and has very limited river fishing experience.

Through this episode Nate and Tony go over some of the basics of river fishing, including what to look for and tactics to use for certain fish. Fly fishing is really where Tony has settled over the years and shares different technics he uses throughout the year. Tony also goes into more detail of how he breaks down a river and how to do some river scouting. Which Nate realizes has similarities to breaking down a property for whitetails or other game animals.

Nate and his wife Ashley really hope to join Tony on a river this fall, and look forward to the adventure and the learning experience.

Emperor’s Table Series: Nate Rozeveld

Bowhunting

On this episode of Huntavore, Nick is joined by fellow Michigander and new Host on MichiganWild Podcast, Nate Rozeveld. Nate is a family man who lives and breathes the outdoors. Nate has conditioned his life around seasons, so he can maximize the right time. The guys talk about several topics, and eventually settle on the meat vs antler chat, where they are able to agree some very foundational terms. Nick of course dives into whether Nate processes his game or takes it in, and is quite impressed with how Nate handles his shoulders. So dive into the great chat about hunting in Michigan, on this episode of Huntavore. Nick is joined by Fellow Sportsmen’s Empire Host, Nate Roseveld. He comes to us from the Michigan Wild Podcast and hopes to bring some excitement to feed. Nate has his fingers in many different things that keep busy outdoors. Having a passion for small game and running dogs, of course chasing mature whitetails, and is contemplating upping his angling, Nate has his hands full of topics to talk about. Nick was impressed that Nate, when given the chance, will process his own venison. Being a bit of a novice in the kitchen, Nate does enjoy making meat sticks and jerky. A meat treat guy at its finest. While he does skit the chance to make some hard earned wild game for his fellow hosts in the Emperor’s Table Pot Luck with chicken wings, Nate delivers on his use of shoulders. Smoking first and wrapping at the end, Nate gives a taste of how we all could approach those whitetail front quarters. You can catch Nate on the Michigan Wild Podcast, on Sportsmen’s Empire.

On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, we chat with Ricky Brule a passionate hunter and the marketing force behind Vapor Trail Archery. Like most hunter profiles, we get to hear about Ricky's hunting origin story as a kid who was interested in archery and bowhunting. Ricky talks about recently being diagnosed ADHD and the benefit archery brings to himself and others with that diagnosis. Ricky along with "Hollywood" just kicked off a new podcast called "The Range" that explores both hunting and target archery. Just another awesome interview with a serious and passionate bowhunter.
